Company Leadership
Tom Klein
President, Sabre Holdings
Tom Klein is the President of Sabre Holdings, the world’s leading retailer of travel products and provider of travel technology and solutions. In this role, Tom has broad oversight across the Sabre Holdings portfolio that in total touches every facet of the world’s increasingly complex travel industry namely Sabre Airline Solutions, Sabre Hospitality Solutions, Sabre Travel Network and Travelocity. Tom ensures the collective strengths and expertise of the entire portfolio are leveraged for greater productivity, efficiency and performance.
His position requires an understanding of diverse cultures and their attendant needs: he leads a talented global team of approximately 9,000 technology, sales, marketing and travel experts who span 59 countries, to provide solutions for travel industry customers throughout 114 countries. Not bad for someone whose first airplane ride was not until the age of 18, when he flew People’s Express from Newark to Boston to see the New York Yankees play the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.
Tom was appointed to his role as President of Sabre Holdings in January 2010 from his previous role as Executive Vice President, Sabre Holdings, and Group President of Sabre Travel Network and Sabre Airline Solutions. Under Tom’s leadership, Sabre has been formally recognized as a premier employer and corporate citizen in markets throughout the world including Poland, Mexico, Argentina, Peru, Brazil and its hometown of Southlake, Texas. In 2006, Information Week ranked the Sabre system in the top 10 greatest software ever written. This same year, Tom was recognized by Business Travel News as one of the “25 Most Influential Executives of 2006”; he was on that list again in 2007, and received similar recognition from Travel Weekly Magazine.
Tom will attribute much of his success to “being in the right place at the right time with the right people”, yet he is no stranger to hard work or the importance of exceptional customer service...lessons he learned in his early years working jobs like paperboy, janitor, dock worker, pizza delivery, construction, and bartender, among others. In fact, Tom held more jobs before earning his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Villanova University, than he has held since!
Before assuming his role as group president in 2004, Tom served as senior vice president for Sabre Holdings and president of Sabre Airline Solutions. Earlier roles included president of Emerging Businesses for Sabre Holdings; senior vice president for Sabre Travel Network, North America and before that, Latin America; vice president of Product Marketing; and, first director general of Sabre Sociedad Tecnologica, a Mexico-based joint venture company owned by Sabre, Aeromexico and Mexicana. Prior to joining Sabre in 1994, Klein held a variety of sales, marketing, and operations positions at American Airlines and Consolidated Freightways, Inc.
In addition to leading Sabre’s Travel Industry Group, Tom serves on the Dean’s Board of the Villanova School of Business, the Advisory Board of Southern Methodist University School of Engineering and the Hewlett-Packard Global Customer Advisory Board. He is a former member of the boards of directors for SITA Inc and TRX Inc.
